In pair with the Product Manager, I made an UXR with 3 levels of research :
Main learnings
1. Users with cash excess are investing or considering it
2. Investments are tracked on Excel but user find it complicated and time-consuming + not automated and risk of errors
3. It is difficult for them to estimate precisely how much money they will have available in the future
4. Users don’t want to invest all their available cash and keep some in case of unforseen event
5. Secured investments are the preferred ones (like term deposits on a 1-12 months range)
6. Users have to report main informations to management
Before starting prototyping a solution for user tests, I made two benchmarks : one of our competitors and another one on Dribbble for UI inspiration.
Based on what we learned during the research and after benchmarking other solutions, I started by modelling the different user journeys to meet the needs.
Example of a user journey on Whimsical
And I then used our Design System and made some specific new components to prototype a two-pronged solution that we tested with 9 clients and our own CFO.
Feature Value Proposition
Earn money by optimizing your future cash balance & save time with a reliable investments monitoring
Simulation
- Display of cash available in the future (thanks to cashflow plan)
- Simulation of term desposits with potential earnings
- Possibility to set up banks conditions (duration, rate)
- Possibility to set up a cash cushion
Follow-up
- Complete form to add current investments
- Automated statuts
- Automated interests calculation
- Key KPIs for management follow-up
Simulation
- Simulation has a lot of value and is helpful to make decisions.
- Cash cushion is a must have since they always want to keep money for safety reasons.
- Investments durations we recommand correspond to the most common ones.
Follow-up
- All major informations users want to follow-up are in the table
- "It looks like my current Excel file but better because it’s automated"
- Users find the interface clear and easily identify key informations.
Simulation
- The form to fill before accessing the module and enjoying its value is too long and discouraging.
- Investments opportunities presentation is confusing, users do not understand that it's a combination of investments to make together.
- Users do not necessarily favour the longest duration.
- They would like to have information about standard market rates to compare or to simulate gains without knowing them.
- They would like to be able to personalize the simulation.
Follow-up
- Users expect that our module is linked to their Agicap Cashflow plan from the MVP otherwise it has no value
- Our interests calculation is sometimes wrong when investments have specificities (eg : due date is on a holiday)
- Users sometimes close their investments in advance and need to be able to do it on the app because it impacts interests and status.
- Users like the automated KPIs but they need more detailed ones.
Thanks to the user tests, I was able to make some adjustments to our MVP version to make sure we deliver something usable and valuable for our users .
This version has been developed and launched to new and existing users in February 2024, mainly on the mid-market segment.
Along with launching the MVP, we set up Looker and Heap dashboards to follow-up both the acquisition (number and % of new deals with the feature, upsells, MRR...) & the usage of the feature.
What do we do with this data ?
Following these KPIs after launching our MVP was essential because it allowed us to :
- Mesure the success of our feature
- Evaluate and adapt our go-to-market strategy
- Identify any gap between acquisition and usage (are some users buying it but not using it ? why ?)
- Prioritize evolutions for the next version
1. Prioritize improvements of the module with new features and options for :
- Better adoption for existing users
- Convincing users for who something essential was missing
2. Working with the go-to-market manager to accelerate sales (identifying what is blocking some sales, presentations to sales & CS, feature champions...)
3. Linking this module to other ones in the app to improve user experience (e.g. make investments data communicate with the cashflow plan and expected transactions for a more accurate cash forecast)
